Title: Too Hot OR Not – Original 11×14″ Artwork by Tamara Cartwright
In this painting I wanted the birds to be standing in a space opposite of each other with a cool, blue moon between them. One is obviously hot because he’s literally on fire and the other is obviously not. The background has white dots to break up the darkness and I use mark-making techniques to create gesture in the space that surrounds the birds. I will leave it up to the viewer to decide.

Unveiling Too Hot OR Not: Within this painting, Tamara skillfully positions two birds in a cosmic dance, standing in opposing spaces. A cool, blue moon delicately separates them, creating a visual equilibrium. One bird is ablaze, radiating heat and intensity, while the other remains untouched, embracing the coolness of the lunar divide.
The background, punctuated with white dots, disrupts the darkness, adding a dynamic contrast to the celestial scene. Tamara’s mark-making techniques further enhance the composition, creating a sense of gesture and movement in the space that envelops the birds. The deliberate ambiguity invites viewers to ponder the dichotomy—Too Hot OR Not—leaving the interpretation open to individual perception.
