Rare Birds – Original 11×14″ by Tamara Cartwright
In this piece I wanted to use the raw white canvas with red, yellow and blue as individual points of colour surrounding the birds. The birds are standing together on another planet, one looking at the viewer the other looking away, both have a fixed gaze. They are created using watered down black acrylic paint and outlined with an ink pen. The scattering of paint dots gives the birds energy in the space that surrounds them while also suspending them in a freeze-frame. These birds are common Gulls and are not rare at all hence the name Rare Birds.
- Title: Rare Birds

Unveiling Rare Birds: In this piece, Tamara presents a striking contrast between the purity of the white canvas and the bold vibrancy of red, yellow, and blue. Two common Gulls take center stage, standing together on an alien terrain. One bird gazes directly at the viewer, while its companion looks away, both locked in a fixed gaze. Created with watered-down black acrylic paint and meticulously outlined with an ink pen, these birds possess a unique depth and definition.
The scattering of paint dots surrounding the birds infuses the composition with energy, suspending the avian duo in a mesmerizing freeze-frame. Despite being common Gulls, the name “Rare Birds” adds a layer of irony, inviting viewers to contemplate the extraordinariness found within the seemingly ordinary. This piece is an acrylic masterpiece that transcends traditional boundaries, inviting you to explore the captivating interplay of color, form, and avian allure.
