Little Allie is an Original Acrylic on Hardboard measuring 6 inches x 6 inches, Unframed.
Sitting by a window in the late evening I noticed a hummingbird flutter for a while. It seemed to be looking at me. It was strange though as I’d never seen them on this side of the house as there are no flowers. Nor is there a hummingbird feeder over here. After pondering this oddness I decided to go look at the feeder just to make sure and true enough it was empty. I could hardly believe that these little fellows were clever enough to let me know that they needed tending and where to find me.
They are happy with me so long as I fill the feeder regularly and keep my distance.
It’s just not my right to try cleaning around that part of the sun deck where their feeder is placed. To do so would get me scolded and dive-bombed.
I have had a feeder out all year long for more than twenty five years and have watched new babies being born and plop right out of their tiny little nests and it is indeed magical. Often there are three or four hummingbirds fighting for space around the feeder and they can be noisy little critters.
Hummingbirds are one of my favorite subjects. I love painting them in bright colors as it seems to fit their strong personalities. This one I call ‘Little Allie’.
I am a self-taught artist who uses abstract impressionism to depict nature’s grand explosion in all the colours of the rainbow. I paint instinctively and try to express nature in as much joy as I can.
Even though I love the world of art as a whole, drawing and painting in vivid color are my passion.
I always knew I was an artist but the chance to actually make a living as a painter came many years later. I had raised a family, and got a job as a silk painter for a wearable art designer.
It was an exciting time for me to be actually getting paid to have so much fun. I couldn’t wait to get back to work after the week-ends.
Every painting for me is a journey in which I get to learn something new and exciting. Hopefully, I am able share my joys to make the world a happier place.
I have continued to follow my passion for painting, doing Exhibitions and Craft Fairs and getting to know the people who enjoy and collect my paintings.
