Home of the Arbutus by Karen Knuff
We have a beach at our cottage, known as Arbutus Beach. This beach gets the sunshine first, before our other beaches. It’s a popular place because of this.
We have one huge, beautiful arbutus tree! It’s at least a hundred years old! I love this tree. It’s trunk is smooth and inviting, thick and easily climbable. The red brown bark is thin. Sometimes I’ll peel some of the bark off.
Underneath, is the smooth new bark. It really is a weird looking tree, but that’s why people love them. They really love the sun too! The trees will twist and turn fighting their way through other trees, just to find the sun. This is what makes these trees have incredible shapes!
These trees are most often found on cliffs and rocky outcroppings by the ocean. It’s the meeting of forest and sea.. Home of the Arbutus.

About Karen
I discovered that when I’m painting, I no longer feel depressed. I’ve struggled with depression for years. This definitely was the miracle that I desperately needed in my life! When I paint, my depression simply evaporates into thin air for that day.
Where did my creative talent come from? I know that this is God’s gift to me, and what a gift!
I have an art studio in my home in Maple Ridge, BC where I live, and where I paint my pictures.
My father, my aunt, and my grandmother were all artists.
