Charged by Erin Caskey
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 24 × 36
The inspiration for ‘Charged’ came from using a flat ipad charging cable as a way to paint instead
of a paint brush.
Erin was born in White Rock, BC and has lived her entire life in the lower mainland. She has always had artistic talent, but lacked the direction on what to do with it. Then she met Fred, another artist who became her friend and mentor and who helped her with the direction that she needed. It was because of him that she made the decision to go back to school in order to pursue art. Unfortunately Fred passed away before she could tell him she had been accepted into the BFA program which was his goal for her.
In 2018 she decided enough was enough, she quit her job to pursue her artistic ambitions fulltime. In 2019 She completed her Diploma in Fine Arts and and in 2021 completed her Bachelor in Fine Arts. She currently lives in Abbotsford, BC with her two cats Kizmet and Fizz and a roommate.
Even though Erin graduated with specialties in Photography, Print Media and Painting. She currently only focuses on painting. Erin is unlike many artists in that she doesn’t hold to the idea that an artist should specialize in only one thing whether it’s landscape or portrait or even abstract painting. She lives in the moment so sometimes that means working with Acrylic paints and doing abstract paintings with different objects such as spice jars, USB cables, toy cars, marbles, oral syringes, even her medication bottles, pop cans or water guns. Erin decided that she wanted to learn how to oil paint and ended up trying to paint Pet Portraits or even painting the characters from TV shows that she was watching at the time. She even did some paintings around Mental Health.
Last year she even did a few custom greeting cards for people before becoming really interested in doing custom painting flower pots. This year she has continued on trying to do greeting cards and has even started doing her own unique style of cards which is a cut-out card that gives the image a 3D style appearance.
